About Italy tax
Italy's IRPEF runs at 23% on income up to €28,000, 35% from €28,000 to €50,000, and 43% above €50,000. Regional surtaxes add 1.23-3.33% depending on where you live (Lazio is 3.33%; Trento is among the lowest at 1.23%). Employee INPS (social security) contributions are approximately 9.19% for most private-sector employees, covering pension and disability.
Italy also offers the impatriati tax regime - a significant incentive that excludes 70% of income from taxation for workers relocating to Italy from abroad, valid for five years with an optional five-year extension. Qualifying Milan relocators can see effective tax rates of around 15-18%. Read the full impatriati guide →
